# Pricing Experiences Overview

### **What is a Pricing Experience?**

Intelligems takes the guesswork out of setting your product prices by allowing you to test prices in real time in order to find the “right” product prices to drive profit, revenue, and conversion.

Pricing experiences are easy to build and customize: add multiple test groups with configurable traffic distribution rules, select which products to include, and set the price each group sees.

{% hint style="info" %}
Pricing is available on Smart Pricing and Unlimited plans. Smart Pricing works differently from our other modules. Price testing needs an integration our team sets up with your store, so it isn't self-serve and doesn't come with a free trial.
{% endhint %}

You build a Pricing experience the same way either way: choose your products, set your prices. Then choose a mode.

* **Test** splits your visitors between groups, and the results tell you which price performs better.
* **Personalization** shows the price you've picked to everyone, or to a specific audience, with nothing being tested.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Three things work differently when you run a Price Change as a Personalization:

* You can only reduce prices.
* Duplicate products and subscription products aren't supported.
* Prices change in your store's default currency only. We switch currency targeting on automatically and set it to that currency, so shoppers browsing in another currency won't see the Personalization.
  {% endhint %}

### **The 2 experience types**

| Type                                                                                                                         | What it's for                                       |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| [**Price Change**](/pricing-experiences/pricing-experiences-overview/how-to-set-up-a-price-test.md) | Run true price tests on selected products. |
| [**Amount off Products**](/merchandising-experiences/offer-modifications/how-to-set-up-an-amount-off-products-experience.md) | Discount specific products by percentage or amount. |

Price Change updates the price and the compare-at price shown on your PDPs and across your site. Amount off Products leaves your site prices alone and takes the discount off in the cart and at checkout, the way a discount code does. If you want shoppers to see a different number on the product page, use Price Change.

### **How does it work?**

For all Shopify brands, Intelligems displays the correct price on the frontend by manipulating the DOM to show the correct price for each test group. This is possible once the Intelligems team has integrated your site and [prices have been tagged](/pricing-experiences/price-testing-integration-guides/integration-guide-using-shopify-functions/step-2-tag-product-prices.md). Intelligems displays the correct price in the cart and charges the correct amount at checkout using one of these two methods:

1. **Using Shopify Cart Transform Functions.** Intelligems will automatically set your prices to the highest prices in the experience in Shopify when you start it, and we will use a Shopify Cart Transform Function to dynamically adjust the price for any users in a group lower than the highest price. This ensures that the shopper sees the same price in the cart and at checkout that they saw everywhere else on the site. This method is available for brands on any Shopify plan and is our primary method for price testing.
2. **Using Duplicate Products.** In certain cases, such as testing something more complex or if you offer subscriptions, Intelligems will swap in a duplicate product when a user adds to cart.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Deprecated: Checkout Scripts**

As of August 2025, Shopify has deprecated the Script Editor app. Previously, some Shopify Plus stores used the checkout script as an integration method for price testing. If your store is still on that method, see the [Pricing Experiences Integration Guides](/pricing-experiences/price-testing-integration-guides.md) for the two current options.
{% endhint %}

### **How can I get started?**

There is a short integration required before you can begin a Pricing experience. Please book a demo with our team [here](https://meetings.hubspot.com/igsam/igdemo?uuid=09e10934-25f6-4485-9f0e-4ceb6e80f099) so we can learn more about your store and get it integrated with Intelligems.

Though we would only recommend it for teams with developers, you can do the integration yourself. Please see the appropriate guide [here](/pricing-experiences/price-testing-integration-guides.md). If you are not sure which integration guide you should be following, please use the link above to book a time with our team.

Once the integration has been completed, see the guides below.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.intelligems.io/pricing-experiences/pricing-experiences-overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
