Shopify Scripts is sunsetting
Here's what this means for you
Shopify has announced that Checkout Scripts will be sunset in two phases. Read Shopify's official announcement here.
April 15, 2026
Scripts are frozen. You can no longer edit or republish existing scripts. (Shopify changelog)
June 30, 2026
Scripts are fully removed. All script-powered tests stop running.
What does the April 15, 2026 freeze mean in practice? Don't worry, your existing tests will not stop working on April 15, 2026. They will continue running in their current state.
However, because scripts can no longer be updated after that date, any test that requires configuration changes (updating test group assignments, modifying thresholds, changing offer logic) will produce incorrect results or serve all shoppers the same experience.
The hard deadline for migration is June 30, 2026.
This is a Shopify platform change that affects all merchants and all testing providers using Checkout Scripts, not just Intelligems.
We are here to help. Read the section below for your specific use case, then reach out to your CSM or our customer support team with any questions.
If you use scripts for non-subscription pricing tests
What is changing
Pricing tests powered by Checkout Scripts will stop functioning on June 30, 2026. After April 15, 2026, you will not be able to make any updates to those scripts, including changes to test group IDs, price thresholds, or shipping rules. Tests may appear active in Intelligems but will silently serve incorrect results if the underlying script can no longer be updated.
If no script updates are needed, your test may continue running until June 30, 2026. After that date, variants will no longer receive modified prices and all shoppers will see the control experience.
What to do next
Migrate price tests to the duplicate product method. This is Intelligems' recommended approach for price testing and does not rely on Checkout Scripts at all. Your CSM can walk you through the migration if you have one, or follow the self-service guide in our docs: How to run a price test using duplicate products
Target migration completion before June 30, 2026. We recommend completing your migration well ahead of the deadline to avoid any disruption to your testing program.
If you use scripts for subscription pricing tests
If you use a subscription platform alongside Intelligems for script-powered discount testing, this change affects you. Please contact your CSM for a dedicated review.
What is changing
Subscription discount tests powered by Checkout Scripts will stop functioning on June 30, 2026. This is the most complex migration scenario because Shopify Functions do not yet support recurring orders or subscription products. There is no direct replacement available through Shopify's native tools today.
Shopify has publicly stated that subscription compatibility in Functions is their top platform priority for 2026, but no confirmed timeline has been shared.
What to do next
Reach out to us now. We want to understand your specific subscription setup and get ahead of the June 30, 2026 deadline together. Contact your CSM directly if you have one, or email [email protected].
We are actively monitoring Shopify's Functions roadmap. As soon as a migration path is confirmed, we will update this page and reach out directly to affected customers.
Do not assume the June 30, 2026 deadline applies cleanly. The lack of a Functions replacement means this situation requires individual review. Reach out and we will work through it with you.
If you use scripts for shipping tests
What is changing
Shipping tests powered by Checkout Scripts will stop functioning on June 30, 2026. After April 15, you will not be able to make any updates to those scripts, including changes to test group IDs, price thresholds, or shipping rules. Tests may appear active in Intelligems but will silently serve incorrect results if the underlying script can no longer be updated.
Shipping script modification values will stop applying after any required update cannot be made. Shoppers will default to seeing control prices. There is no direct Shopify Functions equivalent for custom shipping rate logic at this time, so please contact your CSM to work through your specific setup.
What to do next
For shipping tests, get in touch directly. These require a tailored approach based on your configuration. Reach out to your CSM if you have one, or email [email protected]. Do not wait on this one.
Target migration completion before June 30, 2026. We recommend completing your migration well ahead of the deadline to avoid any disruption to your testing program.
If you use scripts for another testing or personalization reason
What is changing
Any Intelligems test or personalization that runs through a Checkout Script will be affected by the April 15, 2026 freeze and June 30, 2026 deprecation. If you are not sure whether your setup relies on scripts, check your test configuration in Intelligems or ask your CSM.
Common use cases that may be impacted beyond standard price and shipping tests include:
Offer or discount logic powered by scripts
Custom checkout modifications tied to test group assignments
Any checkout behavior that was set up before Shopify Functions was available
What to do next
Check your active tests and personalizations. Look for any setup that references a Checkout Script.
Get in touch. We will review your configuration and identify the right migration path for your use case. Reach out to your CSM if you have one, or email [email protected].
Plan for June 30, 2026. Even if your use case is not covered by a standard migration path today, we want to make sure you have a plan in place before the deadline.
FAQs
Will my tests stop working on April 15, 2026?
No. April 15 is the freeze date, not the removal date. Your existing scripts will continue running in their current state after April 15. The issue is that they can no longer be edited or republished after that date. Tests that require any update to run correctly will degrade silently. All scripts are fully removed on June 30.
Do I need to do anything before April 15, 2026?
You do not need to complete your migration by April 15, but we strongly recommend starting now. If any configuration change is needed on a script-powered test between April 15 and June 30, you will not be able to make it. Target full migration before June 30.
Is this an Intelligems specific problem?
No. This is a Shopify platform decision that affects every merchant and every testing provider using Checkout Scripts. Intelligems is not deprecating anything. We are helping you navigate Shopify's change.
What is the duplicate product method for price testing?
The duplicate product method is Intelligems' recommended approach for price testing that does not use Checkout Scripts. It works by creating a duplicate Shopify product variant for the test price, then using Intelligems to route shoppers into the correct variant. It is fully compatible with all Shopify plans and does not have any deprecation risk. Your CSM can help you set it up, or follow the self-service guide in our docs.
What about my shipping tests? Is there a replacement?
Shopify Functions do not yet support the full range of custom shipping logic that Checkout Scripts enabled. For some shipping test use cases, Intelligems may be the only viable solution. Contact your CSM and we will assess your setup and options together.
What happens to subscription discount tests after June 30, 2026?
Script-powered subscription discount tests will stop running on June 30. Shopify Functions do not currently support subscriptions or recurring orders, so there is no direct replacement at this time. Shopify has stated this is their top development priority for 2026. We are monitoring this closely and will communicate as soon as there is a clear migration path.
How do I know if my tests use Checkout Scripts?
Check your test configuration in Intelligems for any test with a script-based setup. If you are unsure, email [email protected] and we will review your account and flag any affected tests.
Who do I contact for help?
If you have a dedicated CSM, reach out to them directly. If you do not, email [email protected] and our team will help you work through your setup and next steps.
